Our 2019 Charities

MID-STEP SERVICES
Mid-Step Services was founded in 1977, we provide services to children and adults that have intellectual disabilities or autism. Our non-profit organization is dedicated to providing residential needs, vocational and educational opportunities and recreation services to these individuals in a caring supportive environment where each individual is encouraged to reach new achievements. Our recent endeavors include: The Pier Center for Autism, which provides state of the art services to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder; and a newly constructed duplex that serves children and young adults who are medically fragile, that require 24 hour nursing care. We will continue to improve our effectiveness as a provider of services to individuals with intellectual disabilities, as an employer, and to the community at large. We look forward to the day when everyone – whatever their abilities – will be an accepted and appreciated member of society.

SIOUX CITY SPECIAL OLYMPICS
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Athletes are from East High, East Middle, North High, North Middle, West High and West Middle schools. They participate in golf, bowling, basketball, cheer/dance, powerlifting, bocce, swimming, soccer and track and field. All of the coaches are volunteers and the athletes pay NOTHING to participate. Our organization is funded by donations and money raised from fundraisers.

COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY OF SIOUXLAND
The Community Action Agency is a not-for-profit charitable organization whose mission is “Dedicated to building partnerships, strengthening families and alleviating the conditions of poverty.” In 2018 our agency made a positive impact on 15,281 individuals. This may appear to be a significant number of people; however there are thousands more that need our assistance. We are proud of the accomplishments we achieved this past year, achievements made possible through the guidance of a dedicated board of directors and a compassionate staff that care enough to ensure that we help everyone who walks through our doors. We greatly appreciate our many community partners, sponsors and donors who invest in our programs to ensure a healthy community.

St. Florian Fire and Burn Foundation was founded in 1993 through the efforts and partnership of dedicated nurses at the St. Luke’s Burn Center and the Sioux City Professional Fire Fighters IAFF Local #7. It was founded with the express purpose of reducing the number of injuries and deaths associated with burn trauma in Sioux City, Iowa and the surrounding communities. St. Florian Fire and Burn Foundation helped purchase the Children’s Fire Safety House used by the Sioux City Fire Department and visited by thousands of school children annually.

COSMOPOLITAN CLUB
We are affiliated with Cosmopolitan International, www.cosmopolitan.org and the Cornbelt Federation (our regional groups in Iowa and Nebraska) and their respective diabetic charities. However, Three Rivers concentrates on Siouxland diabetic projects. We focus primarily on sponsoring diabetic kids for diabetic summer camp. This helps the kids learn to adopt healthy living habits to better deal with the lifetime of diabetes. The kids have gone to the Hertko Hollow Diabetic Camp which is near Boone, Iowa, www.CampHertkoHollow.com. Doctors, nurses and nutrition staff are on hand 24 hours a day during the camp.
